German Christmas Markets

December 19, 2009

Our trip to the Cologne Christmas markets seems like such a long time ago now. It was in fact only a few weeks ago.

The intervening weeks spent shopping on the internet (only this morning I find myself stressing to see whether or not one internet provider really does deliver on something I’ve ordered or whether the reviews really will turn out to be a reality), looking at recipe books and preparing the house paint an entirely different picture of Christmas in comparison to the relative ease and simplicity of a German one.

It could of course be a case of the ‘grass is greener’, but even so there’s a mysterious sense of calm which passes over me when I watch these roughcuts back, this in no small part I’m sure to the tyrannical influences in the media continuing to propagate the idea that people won’t stay with a video any longer than a minute.
