Crispin Blunt is gay
Should we really care that junior minister in the coalition government Crispin Blunt has come out as gay? Will someone we know care he’s gay? Will Conservative blogger Iain Dale get his wish? Will the media shrug their shoulders and ignore the story?
It may not be all doom and gloom like Dale suggests in his blog however.
The last minister to come out was David Laws after a record-breaking short-term contribution to government.
But as much as was written about him, his predicament and his actions at the time, has much been said since? Was Laws’ departure more interesting than the reason for his departure? And, if it was, does that signal that a minister’s sexuality is becoming less and less significant to both media and voters alike?
